it’s your day on the water and we’ll help make it a great one!

CAPTAIN JEFF AND his wife JAYNIE GOODWIN work HARD TO plan the ideal fishing trip for all of our client groups.

This trip is about you. Whether you are an experienced angler, or a first timer, we will do everything in our power to help make this a great fishing experience for you and your party. Captain Jeff Goodwin is always booking up, so when you are ready to start talking about specifics, give us a call so we can get your next trip on the calendar.  We try to book our trips during the most productive periods on the waters we fish, and we always provide our clients accurate and honest reports.  If we don't think we'll catch fish, we may ask if you’d like to re schedule your trip or we may suggest another option for fishing that day. Tough days on the water happen even during the peaks of the season, but we always work very hard for our clients. In most cases, while knowing the bite may be tough, many of our groups insist on fishing no matter how the bite may materialize on their scheduled day of fishing. We understand that your outings are often planned well in advance, and for that reason, we will always do what we can to get your party on the water and will work hard to put fish in the net!

Our Fishing locations

We book guided fishing trips on many of the lakes and rivers within a few hours of Redding, California. Where we choose to fish depends on the time of year, what’s currently producing the best results, and guide availability. Should a particular season close due to changing fishing regulations, we will move to a venue that is the best fit for your fishing group. You’ll find our most popular fisheries below. the gear

WE USE THE VERY BEST EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE IN THE FISHING INDUSTRY.

We pay special attention to all the fishing gear and bait we provide our guests. We are pleased to offer our clients the use of the very best equipment the fishing industry has to offer and have spared no expense in doing so while fishing with our guests.

Captain Jeff Goodwin’s 24' Boulton Sentinel Pro is configured to guide on our local lakes for Land locked salmon, trout, and steelhead year round.

Captain Jeff Goodwin’s 25’ Willie Raptor for our lake & river trips!

Rods, reels, and line

We feature high end rods & reels on our boats.

We have partnered with many fishing tackle and fishing gear companies which enables us to use, and offer to our guests, some of the finest fishing equipment in the industry.  All of our fishing rods are paired with the best reels and are very easy for our guests to use during their day of fishing.  We use braided lines for heavier applications, like fishing for salmon and striped bass.  We use premium fishing lines for our lighter applications which include our lake salmon, trout and bass fishing lines.

the baits

It is our belief that utilizing only the best bait and scents available while fishing Northern California waters is essential to our success on the water.  We cure our own salmon and steelhead roe and have developed some "special" recipes for every species of fish we pursue.  Developing our own special blend of Pautzke bait curing product has been the key to our success on the water and often times will be the reason we are catching fish and others on the same waters are not.  From curing salmon eggs to brining frozen bait, to adding scents to our lures, we use Pautzke Bait products exclusively!

We use our own special blend of Pautzke product egg cures for fishing NorCal Rivers for King salmon and steelhead.

what to bring

IT'S IMPORTANT TO COME PREPARED!

Below is a list of required and recommended items to bring with you or to consider as you are packing for your trip. Having everything you may want or need will make your day on the water much more enjoyable!

  • A VALID CALIFORNIA FISHING LICENSE IS REQUIRED TO BE ON YOUR PERSON DURING YOUR DAY OF FISHING. IF YOU FORGET TO BRING A LICENSE YOU WILL BE GOING ON A BOAT RIDE FOR THE DAY. Additionally, a salmon/ steelhead report card is required when fishing the Klamath River only. Sacramento River King salmon fishing does not require a salmon report card, but if you intend to target or retain and steelhead, steelhead report cards are required statewide.

  • LUNCH, BEVERAGES, AND ANY OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS- Pack what is needed for your groups full day (6-8 hours) on the lake or river we’re fishing. Note; Lunch and beverages are provided for fly fishing day trips only.

  • DRESS IN LAYERS- Down river boat runs can be very cold so be prepared for the frigid mornings and pack some lighter clothes for the afternoons that tend to heat up in the Sacramento River Valley. In the fall, winter, and spring you may have to carry rain gear and a heavy jacket, so make sure to check what the weather forecast says before packing your gear for the day. Many mornings are 20 degrees cooler on the river than they are in town so please take that into consideration.

  • DON'T FORGET YOUR FAVORITE HAT, SUNGLASSES, AND SUNSCREEN (NO SPRAY-ON PLEASE)- to keep your skin protected from the sun.

  • You’ll definitely need a CAMERA/SMART PHONE to record that special moment when you catch that fish of a lifetime.  I will always have the ability to take pics throughout the day as well and I can send them to you after our day of fishing.

  • ICE CHEST- large enough for your perishable items and one in your vehicle to take fish fillets home in.

  • LIFE JACKETS- (comfortable) for children 13 and under who are required to wear them for the duration of the fishing trip. We carry adult size life jackets only.

Q: HOW DO I MAKE A RESERVATION FOR A FISHING TRIP?

Making a fishing trip reservation is easy with us!  Simply contact Jaynie at our office by call or text, or you can send her an email at jgoodwinguideservice@yahoo.com. She will let you know what our available dates are for the species of fish you wish to pursue.  You can secure your reservation by paying a deposit, or in same cases, the total trip cost via online invoicing.  Personal checks are also accepted, but an email invoice for the deposit is preferred.  Once the deposit payment is received, your day of fishing with us is confirmed.

Q: WHERE DO WE MEET YOU THE MORNING OF THE TRIP?

We have many launch locations that are utilized throughout the year depending on what we are fishing for.  Jaynie will let you know where we will likely be fishing during your trip when you book with us. She will also send you a confirmation email a week prior to your fishing trip and provide the final launch location and meeting time.  Any additional pieces of important information or changes in location or meet time will be communicated via email or a phone call prior to meeting your guide at the launch on the day of your trip.

Q: WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A TYPICAL DAY OF GUIDED FISHING?

All of our guided fishing trips are private party fishing trips unless you are informed otherwise. This means that your party will be the only people fishing with your guide on the day of your scheduled trip.  We are not an open charter boat and we do not sell seats in order to fill the boat for the day.  So now that you have booked your private party fishing trip, you are paying for a full day of fishing.  A full day consists of a 7-8 hour guided trip and begins at the meeting time at the boat launch.  We will take breaks as necessary to ensure everyone is continuously comfortable throughout the day.  We typically fish 7-8 hour days, but your day may be shorter if your party chooses to go home early. Its NOT our policy to catch quick limits of fish and head to the launch to end your day of fishing.  Your guide will be actively coaching and helping you to catch the fish you are seeking throughout your trip.  Your guide will be providing assistance, giving verbal instruction, and demonstrating rigging and angling technique.  During your trip, it will be your guides job to help you be as successful as possible by keeping your gear/bait in the water and in front of fish.  Paying attention to your guides instruction is a very important element needed for your day of fishing to be a success. At the end of your fishing trip, your guide will take you back to the launch and process your catch for transport home.  Our goal is to provide an environment for you while on our boats that is safe, stress free, fun, informative, and full of excitement!  Your guide will give you a 100% effort every day and do everything in his power to help you catch fish.
